Day 85: Snatch
HOORAY. The Czar of them all, the Russians like to say, I LOVE THE SNATCH.
Many in the strength community believe the swing, pushup and snatch, together, mixed and matched and scaled and loaded, could be the only three movements you do for strength and fitness, and you’d have everything you needed. Throw in sprinting and OH press, and I am right there with them.
Humans are the only ones who make things MORE, for the sake of more is better.
Animals don’t do this. They train as cubs, to be strong, capable adults because they have to in order to survive. We don’t HAVE to, so a majority are lazy and don’t.
Use: a kettlebell, a dumbbell, a sandbag, a ruck (backpack), or be creative.
Time Domain
No time domain, just learn
With kettlebells, snatch is hard; don’t give up. Dumbbells, easy.
With kettlebells, it’s 100% likely you will smash your wrists over and over again until technique gets dialed in. Dumbbells, naw.
How do you dial in kettlebell technique - practice, practice, practice.
Kettlebells are the superior load of choice vs. dumbbells. Do I still need to break down why?
Workout Level Suggestions
Level 1: Kettlebell/dumbbell DEAD snatch
Level 2: Dumbbell SWING snatch (or another handled load)
Level 3: Kettlebell SWING snatch
Progressive instruction (if it just feels too hard)
*** You are welcome to try BOTH dead snatch and swing snatch. The “roll,” similar the “roll” at the top of the clean, happens easiest during the dead clean, so if you're good with the swing but smash your wrist on swing snatch, consider trying dead snatch and perfect those first.
Coaches Plan
I am just going to snatch the 16kg bells with attention to perfect clean form.
Resources - How to
Always remember, the load instrument does not matter - kettlebells, dumbbells, small sandbag … Just note it.
Score: Share to website comments and/or Facebook
Note the load.
Share your proficiency with the technique.
